A compound derived from aloes, the juice of leaves of various species of Aloe. Both aloin and aloes are stimulant laxatives used for the relief of constipation and its associated discomfort. Aloin is available as tablets that can be obtained without a prescription, but only from pharmacies. Aloes is an ingredient of a compound laxative. Precautions: this laxative is not recommended for children. Proprietary preparations: Beechams Pills; Calsalettes; POTTER’S CLEANSING HERB (combined with cascara and senna).
