A proprietary combination of dexamethasone (a corticosteroid), framycetin sulphate (an aminoglycoside antibiotic), and gramicidin (an antibiotic), used for the treatment of inflammatory conditions of the eyes when infection is present or is likely to occur. It is also used to treat infections of the outer ear. Sofradex is available, on prescription only, as eye drops or ointment or ear drops.
Precautions: long-term use of Sofradex should be avoided in infants.
