A proprietary combination of prednisolone (a corticosteroid) and neomycin sulphate (an antibiotic), used for the treatment of inflammation of the outer ear with infection and eczema and inflammation of the eye. It is available as drops on prescription only.
Side effects: there may be local irritation due to allergic reactions.
Precautions: prolonged use of the drops should be avoided.

A glucocorticoid, similar to prednisolone, used for the treatment of inflammatory and allergic
disorders, including rheumatoid conditions. It is available as tablets on
prescription only.
Precautions: In addition, this drug should not be used by those with liver disease.

A long-acting benzodiazepine used for the short-term treatment of insomnia. It is available as tablets or an oral suspension on prescription only; certain proprietary preparations cannot be prescribed on the NHS.
nitrazepam

Logynon (Schering Health Care) A proprietary combination of ethinyloestradiol and levonorgestrel used as an oral contraceptive of the triphasic type. These tablets are packaged in three phases, which differ in the amounts of the active ingredients they contain. Logynon ED contains both active and dummy tablets, so that a tablet is taken each day of a 28-day cycle.
Both preparations are available on prescription only.

Nystaderm (Bristol-Myers Squibb) A proprietary combination of triamcinolone acetonide (a potent steroid) and nystatin (an antifungal drug), used for treating Candida infections of the skin and eczema when these are associated with inflammation.
It is available as a cream on prescription only

A proprietary combination of  ferrous fumarate and  folic acid, used to prevent deficiencies of iron and folk acid during pregnancy. It is available as tablets and can be obtained without a prescription, but only from pharmacies

A proprietary combination of conjugated oestrogens and medroxyprogesterone used as continuous combined hormone replacement therapy for the relief of menopausal symptoms and prevention of osteoporosis in women who have not had a hysterectomy and who have not had a period for a year. It is available as tablets on prescription only.

A compound derived from aloes, the juice of leaves of various species of Aloe. Both aloin and aloes are stimulant laxatives used for the relief of constipation and its associated discomfort. Aloin is available as tablets that can be obtained without a prescription, but only from pharmacies. Aloes is an ingredient of a compound laxative. Precautions: this laxative is not recommended for children. Proprietary preparations: Beechams Pills; Calsalettes; POTTER’S CLEANSING HERB (combined with cascara and senna).
